Michelle Smith, Certified Doula, CLC, PAIL Advocate, is BPI’s Sacred Roots Doula & Lactation Program Coordinator. After serving 3 years as an Independent Contracted Doula with The Sacred Roots Doula program, an opportunity within BPI presented itself for Michelle to be of service in another capacity. As a part of the team she assists with keeping the Doula program thriving by providing support to the Program Manager, the Doulas and mothers in the community. Michelle helps equip the Doulas with tools and resources to help advocate for mom and baby, so that they can become advocates for themselves.

Michelle is committed to the mission of advocacy work to improve birth outcomes in the Black community, continually fighting to lower the risk of maternal and infant mortality rates. Michelle founded a non-profit dedicated to advocacy work surrounding the pregnancy and Infant loss community, providing families with love, support and encouragement. She creates a safe space for thej to share, connect, and receive encouragement and resources on their loss journey. It was through her own painful experience where she found purpose in serving a community she felt was in need.

Michelle finds much pride and joy in serving others. When she stepped into this new position, she saw the opportunity to continue to serve the community she felt so connected to in a different way. Michelle comes from a background in Customer Service, Medical Billing and being a Homeschooling Mom that serves faithfully to her family, her community and more.

Outside of serving, Michelle enjoys the beach, painting, good food and watching cooking shows. Most importantly she loves making memories with her family.
