Born and raised, Bronx, NY, Mecca Carter is currently a Doula and Home Visitor for Black Parent Initiative. She really enjoys supporting families from prenatal and beyond. This includes supporting the family during prenatal and birth with emotional and physical support while being able to advocate for the family during their birthing process. 

 

After the birth of the baby, she works with the parents and children to help reach their developmental milestones; while building community strength in children and families by focusing on health, parent education and cultural identity development, making sure they have the necessary resources to help them succeed. The most rewarding part is being able to work with families achieving their goals. 

 

Mecca has her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Master's Degree in Library Science. She worked for The New York Public Library for 10 years in a variety of different positions from Clerk, Children's Librarian to Information Systems Analyst. 

 

Her hobbies include traveling, making essential oils, cooking and making pastries. Most of all she loves spending time with her family.
