OUR MISSION
The Black Parent Initiative inspires and mobilizes Black parents to ensure their children achieve educational excellence.

OUR VISION
Black families will achieve financial, spiritual, and educational success.

OUR FUNDAMENTAL BELIEF
To really address the issue of our children's learning and success, we must recall a spirit of self-reliance, empowerment, voice, and determination within the culture of our families - with that we can and will make a difference in the lives of our children.

OUR HISTORY
The Black Parent Initiative was established in 2006 to help families achieve financial, spiritual and educational success. Our vision is actualized by inspiring, engaging, and mobilizing parents/caregivers to improve the educational outcomes of Black children. BPI is currently the only culturally-specific organization in Portland focused solely on supporting low/moderate income parents in North/Northeast Portland as a vehicle for enhancing the lives of Black youth. read more

OUR PARTNERING PHILOSOPHY

The Black Parent Initiative is a participatory, community-based organization. A guiding principle behind BPI is the strong need for more family specific support networks. One organization cannot turn back the hands of time, we must do it together. BPI recognizes the untapped and strong powerbase of the members of the local Black community as a strong mediating institution. Our success as an organization is based largely upon our ability to inspire the intrinsic power of the families in our community. We cannot do this alone!
